We designated Mountain area residents Dave Yokeum and Rob McClain as beneficiaries of our ride. Dave recently has had operations for an abscess on his spine, and a quadruple bypass with two valve replacements. Robby has had numerous surgeries and complications which have led to a kidney transplant.
We kicked off the event Friday, February 27 at 4:00 pm at Schoolhouse Bar, our first official R4RD sponsor. Sarge and his crew grilled up a mess of brats and cooked a Nesco full of tasty chili to keep everyone happy. We had several 50/50 cash raffles, raffled off some fishing gear, raised some money, and had a lot of fun as we made plans for our weekend rides. Click on the pictures below to enlarge:

Saturday morning we met AWSC Miss Snowflake Brooke Murdock and her Dad, Randy, at Chute Inn for breakfast. Several other riders joined us for a very tasty breakfast, and then we met up at Mountain Springs Motel to start the R4RD ride.
Our riding group above (L to R: Dylan, Dan, Barb, Mary, Deb, Sablu, AWSC Miss Snowflake Brooke Murdock, Kathy, Don, Dave, Mark, and Randy Murdock) took off heading east and then south on some perfectly groomed trails when we had our first challenge of the day- Mark blew the engine on his sled. Mark & Dave towed the sled back to Hwy 64 and headed back for a truck and trailer to retrieve the dead sled. Don and Sablu checked the sports section for the scores of the games while we waited for Randy to return. We rode a very scenic loop of wooded trails, then met up later with Dave, and we made a pit stop at Green Lake Tap to do a 50/50 raffle. Doug was nice enough to take our picture:
Brooke showed us her skills at selling raffle tickets, and we were immediately impressed. She got herself a high ranking position on our ride today- 50/50 assistant. Dylan had a little trouble with "Road Rover" and got the new nickname "Dog" on the way from Green Lake to our lunch stop at our second official benefit sponsor, Pine Grove Bar & Grill, which is located on Hwy W, west of Mountain. Rocky and Sally put together a really great lunch of burgers, sloppy joes, soup, and even an R4RD cake! They donated a portable generator and gift certificates to be raffled off, and we also had several other gift baskets as well. The raffles were done later that night by Rocky & Sally. Our guests Brooke and Randy won a complimentary membership to our club for next year. We had a few great photo opportunities:

We ate lunch, did a 50/50 cash raffle, thanked Rocky & Sally for everything, and hit the trail again. Our trails today were so nice that it seemed as though we were following a groomer all day long. Below is one of the CPSC groomers we actually did follow on the tunnel trail- great job Groomers Boys! We appreciate your hard work keeping our trails in great shape. Click on photos to enlarge.

We headed east over to Water's Edge on Anderson Lake, where we had a 50/50 raffle before we again headed back on the trail. We then went north to Skinny Dave's and had our biggest 50/50 pot of the day, which was won by Kathy, who showed off her winnings:
We met for the evening's dinner and festivities at Kitty's I Grill & Bar on Chute Pond (at the end of South Shore Dr), our third and final official sponsor of the R4RD Benefit Ride. Tammy and her crew put together a fabulous feast for us, and there was plenty of it. We spun the wheel and raffled off some tenderloins, turkeys, t-shirts, caps, gift certificates, and other prizes donated by local businesses. Big Al came in a little later and cranked up the karaoke, with the Freedom Girls and other local talent stepping up to the mike to belt out their favorite tunes. We continued to spin the wheel between songs until we had no more prizes to raffle away. At 9:00 pm we drew the winners of the basket prizes, and the rest of the night is history. Thank you to all businesses who made a donation to this event, and a special thanks to Tammy and Kitty's I Grill & Bar on Chute Pond for donating the dinner and hosting the R4RD party.
One final thanks to Brooke Murdock and her Dad Randy for travelling over 4 hours from Warrens, WI to join us for the R4RD Benefit Weekend. Brooke is the 2008-2009 AWSC Miss Snowflake. Miss Snowflake is an annual pageant type contest held every October at the AWSC workshop in October. Snowmobile clubs and County Alliances from around the state have the opportunity to enter a contestant to represent them at the pageant. Brooke Murdock is a perfect example of what this very important position stands for. Miss Snowflake is the "voice of our youth" for snowmobiling, and our youth is the future of our sport. I am proud to be associated with a sport that has Brooke as it's youth representative, and I am proud to have met her. I am confident that with young people like Brooke involved, our great sport will have a very promising future. We look forward to meeting up with Brooke and Randy again in October at the AWSC Workshop.
The R4RD Benefit Ride raised $4800.00 for Robby & Dave, and was increased by $2,000.00 in fund matching from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. At our Annual Banquet on April 4, we presented checks for $3,400.00 each to Robby McClain and Dave Yokeum.
We also had an opportunity to recognize Pam Nelson, fellow Mountain EMT, as a "Real Community Hero" for donating her kidney to Robby last November.
For the second year in a row, Barb Gaab won a GPS unit for raising the most money for our benefit ride. Barb raised $748.00 this year, and she donated the GPS back to CPSC to be raffled off.
