We are Chute Pond Snowmobile Club, and proud of it!

We are the sixth largest 100% AWSC club in Wisconsin, with 205 family memberships. We meet from August through April, on the second Saturday of the month. We hold several "family friendly" annual events for our club members such as our Hayride & Bonfire cookout, Club Slalom Races, Vintage Ride and Show, and Trailside Cookout. Please see our Membership Information page for information on joining our club.

Chute Pond, located in Mountain, WI, is a 420 acre flowage of the Oconto River, and is near the center of our trail system. We have our own snowmobile shop and brand new equipment storage building, located on the southwest corner of Hwy 32 and Hwy W in Mountain, where we store and maintain our grooming equipment. We own two current model year Case tractors, two LMC tracked groomers, and five grooming drags which we use to groom our 100 miles of trails. All of our trail brushing and preparation is done by club volunteers, organized by our CPSC Adopt-A-Trail Program.

Our club is very active and committed to our local community. We hold a Snowmobile Safety class every year in late fall, and we are members of Mountain Area Business Association and Dusty Trails ATV Club. We have an Adopt-A-Highway (corner of Hwys 32 & 64) which we clean up three times a year, we hold an annual food drive for the local food pantry, and last season our club donated $7,420.00 and volunteered 1127 hours to the local community and other charitable causes.

Here is an interesting article on snowmobiling in Oconto County that appeared in the March 2010 issue of Illinois Snowmobiler Magazine.

History of our Club

The first meeting of our club was held at 10:45 pm on August 8, 1970, called to order by Rodney Deau. Temporary officers were assigned.

At the second meeting, held October 10, 1970, voting was held to determine the name of the club. Near North Snowmobile Club was selected over names such as: Oconto River, Snow Runners, Chute Lake, & Snow Blazers. Elections were held, and Rodney Deau was elected the first Club President. Vice President was Dave Jagodzinski and Secretary-Treasurer Marycarolyn Perkins. Dues were voted on at $5.00 per member, and a committee was assigned to discuss patches, membership cards, and by-laws.

The third meeting was held at 9:15 pm October 24, 1970 at Doze Inn. This patch was presented and approved

and club membership cards were discussed. For cost reasons, a plain white card with black ink was chosen.

Over the course of the next several meetings, By-Laws and club rules were discussed. On November 14, 1970, it was decided that wives and children can attend meetings and social functions, and can serve on committees, but can not vote. This was changed on April 15, 1972 when Tootie Hewitt declared she wanted women's voting rights. President Mike Wacker and Doreen Wilson submitted the change to the constitution that allowed women to vote.

On January 14, 1971, Near North Snowmobile Club joined the Nicolet trails Alliance Association,

On March 13, 1971, the Social Committee announced plans for a summer party with a picnic and swimming. Dates were also set for a chicken booyah and beer party in April. Corn roasts were suggested for fall meetings.

The last meeting of the first year was held on April 17, 1971,and plans were being made to purchase a drag.

The Club Picnic held on July 29, 1972 cost the club $32.96.

Near North Snowmobile Club was incorporated on December 12, 1972.

On March 10, 1973, the Trail Committee announced they are looking into a new drag, because the old one is causing too many problems and too much money.

In 1973, proposed Senate Bill 350 would prohibit the operation of snowmobiles during hours of darkness, except for emergency purposes. Thanks to many letters sent to their Senators, this bill did not pass.

It was decided that for the February 2, 1974 Drag Races that water cooled machines will run in the "stock" classes.

The oldest copy of the Club By-Laws and Code of Ethics we still have on hand is dated July 18, 1975.
