Riding with Dan & Dylan, Weekend of February 16, 2008
Saturday, February 16, 2008. Temperature was 32 degrees and sunny at 4:00 pm.
We had our Club Slalom Races at Doze Inn today, so we got a late start riding. Our goal was to catch up with a group of riders lead by Kevin & Bubba, who said they were headed towards White Potato Lake, with about an hour's head start on us. Traffic on the trails had been heavy so far this weekend, so we did not know what to expect as we left the lake at Kingston Rd and headed on 18 E towards the new Rhode's Junction Shell station for gas. The trails were a little soft, but surprisingly good as we headed east to the pipeline, then south down the pipeline. We turned towards Kelly Lake and rode across Kelly Lake heading north. We found Kevin & Bubba's group a couple of miles north of Kelly Lake, turned around and rode with them to Lee Lake Tavern for a pit stop. We ended up riding the same trails back to the Junction, where we ditched to Anderson Lake, stopped at Soletske's Water's Edge before heading home. The trails were soft from the warm temperature and definitely showed signs of the day's heavy wear and tear, but overall were decent for a ride so late in the day. We rode 64 miles today.
Sunday, February 17, 2008 Temperature is 21 degrees at 6:00 am, and it is raining/sleeting.
We didn't ride today. The rain turned to a blizzard, and we headed home.
